Founded in 2017 by Suzie and Iain Millar, The Scottish Bee Company was created with a mission to support declining bee populations while producing authentic Scottish honey and purposeful food products. What began as a passion for pollinators has grown into a thriving Scottish brand built on sustainability, provenance and environmental responsibility.

Packaging with purpose

From the beginning, The Scottish Bee Company has made thoughtful choices about the materials it uses. Its honey is packaged in glass jars with aluminium lids and recyclable paper and card packaging – a decision that perfectly aligns with the company’s environmental ethos.

Glass is an ideal packaging material for honey and premium food products. It protects flavour and quality naturally without affecting taste, while also allowing consumers to clearly see the rich colours and textures inside.

Importantly, glass is also infinitely recyclable and can be reused again and again without losing quality. Long after the honey has been enjoyed, the jar can continue life in the home or be recycled into a new container, supporting a more circular economy.

Sustainability beyond the jar

What makes The Scottish Bee Company especially deserving of Glass Champion recognition is that sustainability is embedded throughout the business, not treated as an afterthought.

The company supports ethical Scottish beekeeping, promotes biodiversity through its sister charity Repollinate, and champions regenerative farming and locally sourced ingredients. Their commitment to environmental responsibility extends across sourcing, production and packaging choices.

This holistic approach demonstrates how brands can combine premium products with genuine environmental care.

Celebrating Scottish provenance

The Scottish Bee Company has also built a brand rooted in provenance and storytelling. From award-winning heather honey harvested from Scottish moorlands to vinegars, dressings and hot honeys inspired by local produce.

Their beautifully presented glass jars elevate these products while reinforcing the premium, artisanal feel.

A deserving Glass Champion

Friends of Glass celebrates businesses who recognise that packaging choices matter. The Scottish Bee Company’s commitment to glass packaging reflects its wider values of sustainability, authenticity and quality craftsmanship.

We are delighted to recognise The Scottish Bee Company as a Glass Champion.
