Glass makes spring and summer picnics a breeze when it comes to storing and transporting your food. Not only does glass ensure that your food tastes exactly how you want, but there’s no risk of contamination from unwanted chemicals. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your picnic with glass!

Winter was far too long this year. Really. It was almost like living in Narnia – always winter, never Christmas. But you know what the best thing about summer is? Outside dining! Which is really just another fancy way to say picnics.

Sandwiches, salads, refreshments, maybe even a BBQ with some sausages grilling and onions charring. It’s all fun and games, until the moment when you realise that the food safety issue. After all, you are spending a significant amount of the day just relaxing in the sun, with the food conveniently strewn beside you. Regardless of whether the food is in the sun or shade, it is still outside in the heat. This means extra care and attention should be given to preserving your food to avoid health issues, in case a vegetable or dressing goes bad.

Besides the whole safety issue, you also want your food to stay fresh and delicious, right? As informal as it may be, you still envision a Michelin star experience; only you’re sitting on the green grass or blanket and passing the food around with family, friends and loved ones.

Well then. Let us introduce you to what should, quintessentially, be your new best friend for picnics – the glass jar.

Glass jars are possibly the best picnic partner of all time. They protect your food, making it less worry-some while you relax in the sun with your home-made delicacies!

Also, glass jars have a fantastic benefit when it comes to the taste of the food they contain. Glass jars – and this really is something – make sure the food retains its original taste. Which may not seem like a big deal right now, but you’ll be reconsidering it when you come back from your picnic, still not entirely sure about whether you had a Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich or soggy, salted mulch.

Not done yet! Glass jars keep food fresh. Try putting some tomatoes, mozzarella and basil leaves in a glass jar, carry it around with you all day, and by evening you will still see the clear red, green and white colours radiating from this almost magical packaging container. Simply fantastic!

And finally – glass jars are just so versatile! Whatever you prepare – be it salads, desserts, pasta or anything else, it will always look – and taste – absolutely fantastic. Besides – look at how pretty and tempting it will look!

If you still feel you need to be persuaded, check out this episode on ‘What to Eat Now’, a show on BBC 2 run by British chef, Valentine Warner The second episode of the second season of the show – based entirely around summer food and cooking – focuses on picnic food and the picnic experience. Valentine highlights the practicality of glass jars for picnics – and his recipes are absolutely delicious!

So go for glass jars. They are practical, safe and add that little bit of extra character to a lovely day out. What do you think – will you be choosing glass jars for your next picnic?
