Packaging keeps our food clean, fresh, and tasty – in fact, without it, our food and drink would be open to outside elements that can negatively affect the taste and health benefits.

However, it is important to ensure that the packaging itself also doesn’t affect the contents within it. Food safety is a big issue – in fact, a recent article on the BBC shows that countries all around the world are trying to figure out what measures to take to ensure that our food and drink have no negative effect on us.

A report made by Professor Dieter Schrenk, Professor of Food Chemistry and Toxicology at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern, Germany, in April 2014 reiterates that glass is made of 100% raw and natural ingredients – limestone, sand and soda ash. This ensures that glass as a packaging material is completely inert – so it doesn’t affect the contents placed within it, as some other packaging materials can do in some circumstances. Glass protects the contents from outside forces, ensuring that when you choose glass packaged products, you’re getting exactly what you were expecting from the product within it.

That’s the great thing about glass – unlike other packaging materials, it’s 100% natural, and so ensures that the taste and safety of your food and drink go unharmed. With glass, what you see is what you get – pure taste, and food safety! So next time you’re at the supermarket, think about your packaging, and not just your food and drink. After all, packaging matters!
