We are calling people of all ages in Portsmouth to create their own unique design for a selection of the city’s glass recycling banks. We think this will not only bring the community together, but also inspire more citizens to recycle their glass bottles and jars. Do you live in the area? Make sure to check out our www.glassbankart.co.uk website for more information on how to participate.
In Leeds we are working alongside Leeds City Council and Marks & Spencer to get shoppers talking about glass and recycling through another fun competition. All you need to do is to take a photo of yourself, or your friends/family recycling glass bottles or jars, at any Leeds City glass bank. The best five photos received between Sat 22nd April and Sat 6th May will win an iPad Mini 2.
More partnerships are planned with other local authorities so keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details of where and when they will be taking place.
The UK currently recycles around 50% of container glass (such as bottles and jars), and while this figure has doubled over the last five years, we could definitely do better. Here is how you can help:
Besides the usual food and drink glass containers, make sure to recycle perfume bottles, medicine bottles and beauty products.
Take your empty bottles and jars to the nearest bottle bank as this helps ensure the highest quality recycled glass is obtained. You can find your nearest glass bank on www.recyclenow.com by simply typing in your postcode (UK only).
