In 2015, over 36,000 people from 85 countries joined the challenge and this year looks set to be an even bigger occasion.
The rules
Attempt to refuse single-use plastic during July.
Remember it’s not going to be easy! It is a challenge, not a competition; so don’t worry about being perfect.
Collect any unavoidable single-use plastic you buy. Keep in a dilemma bag and share it with us at the end of the challenge.
It’s up to you regarding how long you participate. You might decide to go plastic-free for a day, a week, a month or longer! However long you choose, you will still make a contribution.
Friends of Glass Tips on Going Plastic Free
Experiment using glass jars as storage for your home made lunches. Soups, salads, cakes. Easy to create and sealed with a lid. Looks fab too!
When shopping, opt for products stored in glass jars and bottles as they are 100 per cent recyclable and keep food and drink fresher for longer. Then just recycle them at a bottle bank on your next shopping trip, so they can become new bottles and jars again.
Get a reusable glass water bottle – save money and be kind to your health. Glass needs no chemical layer so the water will stay pure and taste great too.
Visit the Milk and More website to see if they deliver glass milk bottles in your area.
