Each year, supporters of the campaign come together to show their commitment to protecting wildlife, forests and communities impacted by climate change. While turning off the lights for an hour serves as a symbolic gesture, everyone is encouraged to go beyond the hour to demonstrate each person’s power to fight climate change.

Joining in with Earth Hour really is as simple as flicking a switch. Other simple individual actions, from lowering the thermostat on the hot water heater, recycling glass, to switching to renewable energy, or even simply biking, walking or taking public transportation to work, all can contribute towards making a global impact. We can all do our bit and pause to think about how we can do more and connect closer to the Earth.

Using glass jar lanterns at Earth Hour makes perfect sense because glass is so environmentally friendly. Click here to learn how you can make your own one.

Did you know that recycling glass bottles and jars saves energy? Primarily because it reduces the need to extract and refine natural resources and one glass bottle can go a long way! Even if you recycle one glass bottle, it saves enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours! You have to agree that’s pretty amazing 🙂
